There is nothing better this time of year then sitting outside and enjoying the weather. However, mosquitoes are always a problem and with the recent West Nile scares, taking efforts to ward off these pesky bugs are much greater. However, buying a bunch of candles or other repellents can be very expensive. With this DIY project you can make your own decorative candles and it only costs $4.46 to make.

YOU WILL NEED

Purchased:
  • One ½” x 3/8” Copper Coupling – $1.48 at Lowes
  • Thread seal tape – $0.99 at Lowes
  • Tiki torch replacement wicks – $1.99 at Kmart

Items I Already Had Around the House:
  • Empty wine bottle
  • Tiki torch candle oil

DIRECTIONS
  1. Clean and remove all labels from your bottle

  2. Take your thread seal tape and wrap it around the larger end of the coupling. You will want to wrap this around the coupling until it fits snuggly in the neck of your bottle.

  3. Place the candle wick through the coupling so that the top of the wick sticks out about ¼ inch out of the small end of your coupling.

  4. Fill your empty bottle with the candle oil. You will want to fill it enough so that the wick will be in the liquid once you place it inside the bottle.

  5. With the wick through the coupling, place it into the bottle and secure the coupling to the inside of the bottle.

  6. Once your coupling is secure, you can light your candle immediately and enjoy the a great evening out on your patio.
